March truly brought its gifts—a lot of good came to fruition
for both members of Artsy Apparel this month!
Aside from the recognition we both got as individuals this month, Jenny
and I were pleasantly surprised to have a very special guest speaker in our fashion
retailing class—Richard Hallmarq, the designer that was currently representing
Sacramento in this season of Project Runway!
Hallmarq spoke about almost any and all topics (aside from
what he cannot say due to this season’s PR still being aired on Lifetime TV)–
from past experiences, the experience gain from competing on the show, future
plans and clothes and beauty. The
designer proves to not only be talented when it comes to fashion and designing,
but he was very well-spoken and humble despite all the fame he received from
being a PR contestant. Hallmarq was
interesting and insightful and both AA and the entire class learned a lot from
him about the industry, designing, marketing yourself and staying true to your
roots when fame becomes present in your life.
From what we learned, Hallmarq is an artist at heart. From
the beginning, he uses different kinds of art medium and form to shape his
work. Thus it led to his passion of creating a R-T-W line for women. His strength
is jersey knit fabric which provides extreme comfort. The color palette he uses
is neutrals to give a cozy yet sophisticated look for his clients. Hallmarq
drapes his fabric to create the image he wants. In the overall product, we see
that Hallmarq molds his work into a strong, defined silhouette.
Hallmarq truly astounded us from the media to his own
perspective within the fashion industry. We surely can give our gratitude from
this experience that we inhaled and create our own vision one day as Hallmarq
did.
